Two Peas in a Pod

The JPD/TFC relationship is a thing of beauty. With offices just a stone’s throw away from one another, JPD has been the agency of record for the Tourism Council for over 10 years, handling all of their design work and media planning. Most notable is the Visitor Guide, created annually to let visitors know where to go in Frederick County and how to get there. Designing this 74-page publication is not for the faint of heart. It’s a dirty job, but somebody’s gotta do it.

The average Visitor Guide reader isn’t familiar with Frederick County.

We created easy-to-read maps, using bright colors and clear labels to help visitors find restaurants, shopping, and other attractions listed throughout the Visitor Guide. We also illustrated custom icons and page tabs so visitors can navigate the publication as easily as they navigate the city.

Custom Icons

Custom illustrated icons help readers follow along within the publication and have been used in some of Visit Frederick's ads to create a cohesive brand experience.

Color-coordinated tabs along the edge of the pages match the custom icons and make navigating the Visitor Guide a breeze.

Bright, color-coded maps help visitors on self-guided walking tours and when exploring the county.

One of the highlights of Frederick County is the culinary scene. and outdoor dining is a huge draw to downtown.

JPD art directed the cover shot on location at a new rooftop deck in Downtown Frederick and coordinated the models and photographer. We’ve been able to use the photo in other TFC publications—ads, brochures, and event calendars—to help translate a cohesive brand and message across various platforms. Almost every page of the Visitor Guide contains at least one picture from a photo shoot that JPD art directed, and when you manage the client’s nearly 10,000 picture-strong image library, it makes photo selection for publications like this a lot easier.

Results

The 2017 Visitor Guide is now being distributed at hotels, kiosks, restaurants, and shops throughout Frederick County and beyond.

Visitors to the TFC website can even request a copy and the friendly folks at TFC will send it their way, regardless of distance. The publication has made its rounds to more than 15 countries throughout the world and nearly 12,000 issues have been sent through the mail.
